On July 22, 2009 the Joomla Project announced the following:
The Joomla Project announces the immediate availability of Joomla 1.5.13 [Wojmamni ama baji]. This is a security release and users are strongly encouraged to upgrade immediately. This release contains 26 bug fixes, two moderate-level security fixes and one low-level security fix. It has been 3 weeks since Joomla 1.5.12 was released on July 1, 2009. The Development Working Group's goal is to continue to provide regular, frequent updates to the Joomla community.
SonicFog recommends to all Joomla 1.5.x users that their websites be updated. You should inform your webmaster to take care of this as soon as possible. If you need any help taking care of this please read the information below.

How do I know what the current release is?
There are a few ways to stay up to date.

How can I check my version and release? Just login to your administrator control panel at http://yourdomain.com/administrator  Once you are logged in you will see the version in the top right corner of the page.

How can I update my release? If you see anything less than the current version you can update your version using any of the following methods. Note: We go into more detail below on the different methods.

  • Unzip the update into your Joomla directory using SSH
  • Unzip the update on your local machine and FTP the files to your Joomla directory
  • Submit a ticket to us and we'll do it for you. We charge $10 for clients who do not have a support package with us.

Should I update my Joomla! release? The simple answer is yes. The only reason to not update is if you have made customizations to the Joomla core files. With Joomla 1.5 this is pretty rare. The one file that is commonly customized that may be overwritten is the language file. So, of course, you will want to get a copy of this file before you update the release so that you can re-edit the language file.

The Details of the Different Methods

The SSH Method

  • Go to the Joomla files page and find the update release package you need.
  • Make a copy of the link to the update zip file.
  • SSH into your website and navigate to your Joomla folder. This may be something like public_html or a subfolder. You want to be in the same folder as the configuration.php file.
  • Type w g e t (without the spaces) and paste the link to the update zip next to that. Hit the Return key to execute the command.
  • Now the update zip is where you want it. Type unzip and then the name of the update file and hit the Return key again to execute the unzip.
  • That's it. Now you can check out the new release and make any edits to your language file as necessary.

The FTP Method

  • Go to the Joomla files page and find the update release package you need.
  • Download the file to your local computer (PC or Mac)
  • Unzip the file
  • Use your FTP client to overwrite the existing folders and files with the new ones from the unzipped release.
  • That's it, your done. Check everything out and make edits as necessary.
Note: If your website is Joomla 1.0.x the latest version is 1.0.15. If you are not up to 1.0.15 we can update you to the latest for $10. If you want to update your site to Joomla 1.5.x then you should submit a ticket to us so we can take a look at your site and make an estimate / recommendation.
